Potential Tariff Plan Price Increase in Telecom Sector

There’s speculation about an upcoming price hike in tariff plans within the telecom sector.

Despite a tariff plan increase back in December 2021, major players like Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea haven’t made any adjustments for over two and a half years.

However, industry experts anticipate potential increases in prepaid and postpaid recharge plans from these companies in the coming months.

Challenges for Users with Multiple SIM Cards

Using two SIM cards in your phone might become more costly. Maintaining the second SIM’s activity could require a higher recharge amount.

Presently, to keep a Jio, Airtel, or Vodafone Idea SIM active, a minimum recharge of Rs 150 is necessary.

Post the tariff hike, this amount might increase to Rs 180 to Rs 200. Consequently, if you use two SIMs, you might need to recharge a minimum of Rs 400 monthly for a 28-day period.

Impact on Existing Plans

Incremental Costs Based on Monthly Recharges

1) If your monthly recharge is Rs 300, expect to pay around Rs 75 more per month post the tariff increase.

2) For those recharging Rs 500 monthly, an additional Rs 125 will be required.

Expected Rise in Monthly Expenses

Reliance Jio and Airtel are gearing up to introduce 5G recharge plans, which have been free thus far.

If you opt for one 5G SIM and one 4G SIM, your monthly expenditure might surge by approximately 50 percent.

This is because 5G plans are likely to be pricier than their 4G counterparts, and there’s also a reported increase in 4G plan prices.
