Fossil Decided to Exit the Smartwatch Business

Famous brand Fossil has decided to stop making smartwatches. A report from The Verge says that Fossil wants to focus on what it’s best at.

They won’t be making any more smartwatches after the Gen 6 series, which came out in 2021.

The company explained why they’re doing this

A spokesperson for Fossil said, “Because the smartwatch situation has changed a lot, we’ve decided to stop making them.

Now, we’re putting all our attention on what we’re really good at and growing in areas we’re strong in – like creating and selling regular watches, jewelry, and leather goods under different brand names.”

If you’ve been keeping up with Fossil news, this might not be surprising. Some people on Reddit mentioned that Fossil shop workers were told the company might close.

Others who claim to know things from the inside said Fossil was waiting for a new chip.

Usually, even when it’s hard for Wear OS, Fossil brings out new smartwatches and is at events like CES. But this time, they didn’t.

Before, when others weren’t interested in Wear OS, Fossil stayed. But in 2021, Google and Samsung worked together to make Wear OS 3 better and more exciting.

People were expecting Fossil to announce a new Gen 7 smartwatch in 2023 with the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Plus platform.

Even though Fossil won’t be making new smartwatches, they say they’ll still support and update the ones they already sold for the next few years.

But Fossil leaving the smartwatch world leaves a gap. Fossil’s simple and stylish smartwatches were unique.

The Pixel Watch is a similar one now, but it’s not easy to find in India, and Google doesn’t focus much on fashion.
