Exciting New Car Runs on E20 Fuel, Second Model Powered by Affordable Gas

Toyota recently showcased five of its car models at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024, and what makes them special is that they all run on different kinds of fuel.

Currently, Toyota sells cars in India that use petrol, petrol-hybrid, CNG, and diesel.

One exciting model presented at the event is the Mirai, a fuel cell electric vehicle powered by hydrogen.

It’s quite popular globally and eagerly awaited for its launch in the Indian market.

Another highlight at the expo is the India-made Innova Hycross, which features a flex-fuel (E20) powertrain.

This means it has a 2.0-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine paired with an electric motor, similar to the regular Innova Hycross Hybrid.

The special thing about this version is that it can run on a mix of petrol and ethanol, with at least 20% ethanol content.

Toyota claims that this prototype has very low hydrocarbon emissions and is compliant with BS6 Phase-2 standards.

The Innova Hycross flex-fuel prototype is a strong hybrid, operating 60% on electric power (using only the battery pack) and 40% from the ethanol-operated engine.

The 2.0-litre strong-hybrid engine has specific adaptations like different spark plugs, piston ring tops, valves, and valve seats to resist water and prevent corrosion while running on ethanol.

To further reduce hydrocarbon emissions, Toyota has included a three-way catalyst in the exhaust system of this prototype.

Additionally, Toyota displayed a cross-section of the Innova Hycross Hybrid, highlighting the common electric powertrain parts among its models.

Lastly, the expo featured a specially designed Hilux truck along with the Hyder CNG, adding more variety to Toyota’s showcase.
