TRAI Mandates Caller ID System for All Mobile Operators

A new rule from TRAI, which oversees telecom services in India, says that all mobile companies like Jio, Airtel, Vodafone-Idea, and BSNL must show the caller’s name on your phone screen.

This helps you see who’s calling, even if you don’t have their number saved. It’s meant to stop annoying unknown or promotional calls.

TRAI wants to make sure this rule gets followed. They’re also planning to make it mandatory for all phones to have this feature before they’re sold.

They’ll give phone companies six months to make this change once they announce the rule.

With this service, you can see who’s calling, whether it’s a regular call, WhatsApp, FaceTime, or any other kind.

Another change is that businesses making marketing calls will have a special number series, starting with 140.

This will help you identify these calls. Businesses can also choose a special name to display on your phone when they call, which is registered with the Indian government.
