Tax Department Extends Deadline for Charitable Trust Registration

The Tax Department has good news for people who give to charities. They’ve extended the deadline for registering charitable trusts until June 30, 2024.

This means that trusts involved in charity work have more time to register with the Tax Department.

This extension comes after previous extensions for filling out certain forms, with the latest deadline set for September 30.

This extra time is especially helpful for trusts seeking tax exemptions.

Under Indian tax laws, charitable and religious trusts can get tax exemptions. To qualify, these trusts need to fill out Form 10A.

Additionally, those looking to renew their permanent registration must fill out Form 10AB.

The Tax Department has also mentioned that trusts with provisional registration can benefit from this extension.

If a trust didn’t fill out Form 10A in the 2022-23 assessment year but later got provisional registration, they can still take advantage of the extended deadline.

They can surrender their provisional registration and apply for Form 10A by June 30, 2024.
