Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav unveiled

Ashwini Vaishnav, who is a government minister in charge of communication and technology, revealed the special fiber at the 7th Indian Mobile Congress.

He connected two very, very thin strands of this 160-micron fiber. It’s a very precise process to join these super-thin optical fiber cores perfectly.

What is the specialty?

The special cable, made with 160-micron fiber by Sterlite Technologies, can hold three times as much data as the usual 250-micron fiber.

This means you can fit more cables in the same space. Sterlite Technologies also mentioned that this fiber is only 6.4 mm wide, which is 32% smaller than the old 250-micron fiber.

This allows for more cables in less space and will greatly improve the 160-micron fiber network, its ability to carry data, and its environmental impact.

Cable meets telecom standards

These special fiber cables work really well for communication and follow a set of rules called the ITU G.657A2 standard.

The company mentioned this news after making many new things with the help of our research and development experts, like India’s first multicore fiber that can hold four times as much data and a 180-micron fiber.

Dr. Badri Gomatam, the Chief Technology Officer of STL Group, said that this new fiber will be important for India’s broadband, which means faster internet, and it will meet the country’s growing needs.
