Change in Rules for PMAY

The Ministry of Urban Development and Housing, through a written communication, has informed the Maharashtra government about the decision to extend the PMAY benefits.

This benefit will be extended to families with an annual income of Rs 6 lakh in the MMR.

This change has been introduced to support economically weaker sections and will be applicable only in the MMR region.

Boost for MHADA and CIDCO Home Buyers

This revision in the income limit also benefits prospective home buyers participating in the MHADA and CIDCO lotteries.

Previously, individuals with an income of up to Rs 3 lakh were eligible for these lotteries, resulting in limited benefits.

With the increased limit of Rs 6 lakh, more low-income groups will now be able to avail the benefits of these lotteries.

However, this change will not be applicable to ongoing lotteries. The state government had recommended the increase in income limit, which was subsequently approved by the central government.

It is important to note that in other parts of the country, the PMAY income limit of Rs 3 lakh will continue to apply.

Benefits for Mumbaikars under PMAY

This revision in the PMAY income limit addresses a crucial issue faced by Mumbaikars. The high housing prices in Mumbai and its surrounding areas often made it difficult for individuals with an annual income of up to Rs 3 lakh to avail the benefits of the scheme.

The income of employees in the lower income brackets has increased beyond Rs 3 lakh after the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission.

Therefore, this change in rules will enable a larger number of home buyers to benefit from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
