Google recently added a cool feature to its Google Pixel 8 Pro through a January update. The main highlight of this update is a tool that measures body temperature, essentially turning your smartphone into a useful thermometer.
The Pixel 8 Pro, released in 2023, initially had a physical thermometer inside the camera band on the back, but with this new update, it can now measure body temperature.
How does the body temperature tool work?
Google has carefully designed this feature, calling it “medical-grade.” You can access it through the Thermometer app on the Pixel 8 Pro.
To measure body temperature, all you need to do is scan your forehead with the phone, without directly touching it.
The infrared sensor and the camera’s LDAF work together to accurately detect proximity and trigger readings.
Google also allows users to save temperature readings directly to their Fitbit profile, making it easy to track and monitor health metrics.
While the body temperature tool is fantastic, it might not be available in all markets, especially where medical approvals are managed separately.
However, other eagerly awaited features like “Circle to Search,” “Magic Compose,” and “Photomoji” are expected to be released through regular over-the-air updates on January 31.
