How much refund is available on train ticket cancellation

Passengers booking train tickets are advised to confirm train tickets only after confirmation of the journey, as some amount is deducted in case of ticket cancellation.

Indian Railways removes some money if a passenger cancels a ‘confirmed,’ ‘RAC,’ or ‘waiting’ train ticket. However, the amount to be deducted is determined now.

Apart from this, this amount also depends on the ticket type, AC first, AC-chair car, or second class.

In case of cancellation of a confirmed ticket 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train

  • A flat cancellation fee of ₹240 per passenger for AC First/executive class passengers
  • ₹200 AC 2-Tier/ first class
  • ₹180 for AC 3-Tier/AC Chair car, AC-3 for Economy
  • ₹60 is deducted for the second class.

1. If a passenger cancels a confirmed ticket less than 48 hours and up to 12 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, 25% of the total fare is deducted.

2. For cancellation of confirmed tickets less than 12 hours and up to 4 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, 50% of the total fare is deducted.

3. For cancellation of RAC/waitlisted tickets, if the key is canceled up to half an hour before the scheduled departure of the train, a full refund is given after excluding corkage charges
