IndiGo announces Historic Purchase of 500 Aircraft

IndiGo, the largest airline in the country, has made a significant purchase by ordering 500 Airbus Neo family aircraft.

The delivery of these aircraft will take place between 2030 and 2035.

This announcement was made during the Paris Airshow and marks one of the biggest orders ever placed in India’s aviation industry.

Previously, Air India had placed an order for 470 aircraft in March.

According to a statement released by IndiGo, this order of 500 aircraft is not only the largest for the airline but also represents the biggest single purchase of aircraft by any airline from Airbus.

The specific engines for this order will be chosen at a later date, and it will include models such as A320 and A321.

IndiGo currently holds a dominant position in India’s domestic aviation market, with a share of around 60%.

The A320 Neo family, which consists of A320Neo, A321Neo, and A321 XLR, is part of their fleet.

Presently, IndiGo operates 300 aircraft and had previously placed an order for 480 more, which are expected to be delivered by the end of this decade.

With this recent order of 500 aircraft, IndiGo’s total order book has now expanded to nearly 1,000 aircraft, with deliveries scheduled over the next ten years.

Among the models included in their order book are A320NEO, A321NEO, and A321XLR, among others.
