Bharat GPS NAVIC in Smartphones and Cars: We all know that technology is advancing rapidly in our country.
To make this progress even better, there are plans to connect Bharat’s GPS NAVIC to many devices in our country.
The Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology (IT), Rajiv Chandrashekhar, mentioned that the government is getting ready to introduce GPS NAVIC support nationwide by the year 2025.
This means that all devices in the country, whether it’s a smartphone or a car, will have access to Bharat’s GPS.
The goal is for the next 3 years
The Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Rajiv Chandrashekhar, mentioned on Friday that the government’s objective is to fulfill 70% of the country’s IT hardware needs through local production in the next 3 years.
This is to decrease our reliance on imports from sources that may not always be reliable.
Chandrashekhar said that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology will share a proposal for import rules related to IT hardware with industry representatives today.
The aim is to decrease our reliance on getting supplies from sources that may not always be trustworthy.
It’s important to have more Indian parts in the supply chain
The minister mentioned, “Right now, about 80% of the things we need for our digital devices come from other countries.
We want to ensure that we can trust where these things come from.
To build trust, we need to have more parts from India in the supply chain.
Currently, only 8-10% of the things we need come from India, but we want to increase that to 65-70% in the next three years.
At least 40 companies, like Dell, HP, and Lenovo, have asked for the Production Incentive Scheme (PLI) for IT hardware.
They’ve promised to make personal computers, laptops, tablets, servers, and other devices worth Rs 4.65 lakh crore in the planned time.
If all these companies are chosen for the scheme, the government will need to raise the incentive amount to Rs 22,890 crore, which is more than the budgeted Rs 17,000 crore.
The minister mentioned that he will have a meeting with people from the industry today.
He plans to discuss and show them the draft rules for the suggested ban on importing IT hardware.
Chandrashekhar said, “Today, we are meeting with industry folks to show them a draft of the import rules.
The aim is to address our heavy reliance on imports from sources that may not always be trustworthy.”
NavIC Support Now in iPhone 15 Series
Another important achievement is that, for the first time, the Indian-developed navigation system called ‘NavIC’ has been included in the iPhone.
Additionally, Accord Software and Systems Private Limited has recently created a NavIC chipset that will be part of the built-in navigation systems in cars.
iPhone 15 Pro Models Now Support NavIC
Apple has released new smartphones, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, and they come with NavIC support.
NavIC is India’s own navigation system, similar to the GPS in the USA and Glonass in Russia.
It was developed by ISRO and uses 8 satellites to provide navigation within India and up to 1500 kilometers beyond its borders.
This is the first time Apple has included NavIC support in its iPhones.
