As technology is getting more advanced, many people are choosing new products and services over old ones.
One example is the SIM card in mobile phones. In the past, we only used physical SIM cards, but now some people are using e-SIM cards.
In this digital age, e-SIM cards are better for privacy and security.
Currently, only a few people in India use e-SIM cards, but the number of users is increasing slowly. All three major telecom companies in India offer the option of e-SIM.
Apple has been providing e-SIM features in its iPhones for a long time, and now it’s available in some Android smartphones too.
However, the issue with Android is that users can’t easily transfer e-SIM from one phone to another.
They have to complete the whole process by sending messages manually. But this is going to change soon.
Google is introducing this option for Android devices starting from Android 14.
Initially, this feature was only available on Pixel devices, but now it’s also available on other Android phones. However, the feature hasn’t been widely released yet.
Here’s how data will be transferred
According to a report by Android Authority, a user discovered the option to transfer e-SIM on his LG V60 ThinQ while setting up his Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
The option to transfer e-SIM from Galaxy phones to Google Pixel devices was also visible.
Initially, when Samsung released the One UI 5.1 update, the option was limited to transferring e-SIM between Samsung phones.
But in the new update, this feature has changed, and non-Galaxy users can now transfer e-SIM to another device by scanning the QR code.
To transfer e-SIM from one phone to another, you need to scan the QR code on the old phone from the new one.
After the process is complete, your SIM card will be activated in the new device. Until the process is finished, you can continue using the SIM card on the old device.
This change was first noticed by FragmentedChicken on Reddit, and Samsung introduced this option in the One UI 6.1 update.
Google had previously mentioned the e-SIM transfer tool at MWC 2023.
Now that this option is available on devices from Samsung, it suggests that the company will gradually make it available to everyone.
Currently, people can use this option between Pixel to Pixel and Samsung’s new phones.
