Germany is about to make it easier for Indians to get long-term work visas. Previously, it took about 9 months to process a visa, but now it will be reduced to just two weeks.
According to Schengen News, skilled Indian workers will now see their work visas processed in just two months.
Worker Shortages and Economic Impact
Germany is facing a shortage of skilled workers. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has highlighted the urgent need for these workers.
To address this, visa processing times are being shortened. The German Economic Institute reports that there are about 600,000 job vacancies in Germany.
Long visa processing times have been affecting the training of skilled workers.
The economy is also at risk. The German Economic Institute notes that Indian companies investing in Germany need quick visa approvals to bring specialists.
If job vacancies remain unfilled, the German economy could lose up to 74 billion euros.
So far, the Federal Foreign Office has issued 80,000 work visas by June 2024, with 50 percent going to skilled workers.
