First, there was a very expensive wedding for the owner of this app in Dubai, and later, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) took action against the people managing it in Chhattisgarh.

Because of this, the government has banned 22 similar apps that were operating in the country, including the Mahadev App.

What is the reason for the dispute?

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been investigating the Mahadev Online Book App in Chhattisgarh for a while.

In this situation, Union Minister of State Rajiv Chandrashekhar mentioned that if the Chhattisgarh government wanted, it could have banned these apps itself.

This is because the Chhattisgarh government has the authority to shut down websites or apps under Section 69A of the IT Act, but they haven’t taken action so far.

Moreover, there hasn’t been a request to ban these apps, despite the investigations going on for the past 1.5 years.

This has caused controversy surrounding the ban of the Mahadev app.

What is Mahadev App?

This is an app for online betting, created by Saurabh Chandrashekhar and Riv Uppal from Chhattisgarh.

During the investigation, the central agency discovered that the Mahadev app allows betting on various live games such as poker, cricket, badminton, tennis, and football. This app was introduced in 2017.

The app became very popular during the COVID-19 pandemic. In September of this year, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seized assets valued at Rs 417 crore linked to the Mahadev online betting app.

The investigating agency had claimed that Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal’s company was operated from Dubai and was making Rs 450 crore in monthly earnings from online gambling.
