Due to a glitch in the system of All Nippon Airways (ANA) Vietnam website, passengers were able to purchase first and business-class tickets at a significantly reduced price, far below the usual fare for the journey.
The error fares were observed on ANA’s Vietnam website for multiple routes from Jakarta to various destinations in the US and Canada.
According to a report by New York Post, tickets that usually cost around $10,000 (equivalent to Rs 8.2 lakh) were sold for approximately $300 (around Rs 24,000) during the glitch.
The airline acknowledged that the issue with the fares was a result of a currency conversion error on its Vietnam website.
The carrier has initiated an investigation to determine the root cause of the error and assess the extent of the impact it has caused.
However, the company has not disclosed the number of passengers who had booked tickets at the discounted price.
Upon becoming aware of the glitch, passengers capitalized on the opportunity and purchased round-trip tickets for the business class flight at approximately $330, and first-class tickets for the same destination at around $950.
However, the airline was able to resolve the issue within a few hours after it escalated.
In response to the growing concerns among passengers about whether ANA would honor the tickets purchased during the malfunction, the airline clarified its stance.
According to Simple Flying, Nippon Airways confirmed that the tickets purchased during the glitch are valid and will be honored.
However, a subsequent report on the matter indicates that the airline plans to make a decision by the end of the month, but tickets to be used before May will be considered valid.
ANA, which stands for All Nippon Airways, is one of Japan’s largest airlines.
This 5-star airline has been operating under this name since 2013 and serves approximately 42 million passengers each year.
