India’s Passport Now Offers Visa-Free Access to 58 Nations

The strength of a country’s passport is often used to gauge its global influence.

Currently, Singapore holds the top spot for having the most powerful passport in the world.

Meanwhile, India has also improved its standing in the global passport rankings.

According to the UK-based Henley Passport Index, India is now ranked 82nd.

India’s Progress in Passport Rankings

The rankings are based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). In 2022, India was ranked 87th.

The following year, India moved up to 84th place, and now it has climbed to 82nd.

Indian passport holders can travel to 58 countries without needing a visa.

Leading Passports Around the World

The Singaporean passport offers visa-free access to 195 countries, making it the most powerful in the world.

Following Singapore are France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Spain, whose passports allow entry to 192 countries and territories.

Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, South Korea, and Sweden are tied for third place, with each providing visa-free access to 191 countries.

British, Belgian, Danish, New Zealand, Norwegian, and Swiss passports are ranked fourth.

The American passport, however, has been declining in the rankings for over a decade.

Currently, Australia holds the sixth spot, and the U.S. is in eighth place.

Pakistan’s Position in the Rankings

Pakistan’s passport is ranked 100th globally. Pakistani passport holders can visit 33 countries without a visa, up from 32 in 2023.

In 2023, Pakistan was ranked 106th.
