The Indian Government will give a special number to people who use mobile phones soon.
This number will be like an ID card and will have information about all our main and extra phone connections.
It will tell you things like how many phones you have, how many SIM cards you use, which one is working, and how many SIM cards are under your name.
According to The Financial Express report, the government will use this special number to store all your mobile information in one location. If necessary, it can be accessed using specific numbers.
This special ID will be similar to the 14-digit Ayushman Bharat digital health account linked to the Aadhaar card.
Just like the ABHA number keeps all your health history in one place, you won’t need to carry reports and documents from various places to show to doctors.
Doctors can easily access all your records using the ABHA number. In the same way, the mobile ID will function.
Why was there a need?
This special mobile ID is introduced to make tracking more effective and to keep regular users safe from fraud.
Using this ID number, the government can stop fake SIM cards and SIM cards that have been given out in too many numbers.
Right now, the Department of Telecommunications uses AI-based technology that recognizes faces to check different Licensed Service Areas (LSAs).
When they find too many SIM cards given out, they block them.
The government will provide you with this special ID when you get a new connection.
Additionally, when you purchase a new SIM card, you’ll need to say who will be using it.
In addition to your SIM card, the mobile ID number will also collect information like your income, age, and education.
Let us tell you that in the last 6 months, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has cut off over 6.4 million fake phone connections by using facial recognition technology.
The new special mobile ID number will make this process faster, and it will help protect regular people from fraud.
