Jio Promises Not to Raise Prices for 5G Services, Focuses on User Growth

Reliance Jio, one of India’s leading telecom providers, has exciting news for its users. The company has pledged to keep its 5G service plans budget-friendly.

Rather than raising prices, Jio will maintain its reputation for accessible services. This move aims to bridge the gap for users of Airtel, Vodafone-Idea, and BSNL/MTNL who still rely on 2G networks.

According to Jio President Mathew Oommen, the focus is on expanding its user base, as more customers prefer data-heavy internet plans.

Mathew Oommen emphasized that over 20 million users in India still struggle with 2G connections.

For a thriving telecom industry in India, it’s vital to provide affordable prices while rolling out 5G services.

Mathew stressed Jio’s commitment to delivering a superior customer experience.

Jio’s ARPU Shows Improvement

Jio’s financial strength is measured by its ARPU (Average Revenue Per User). In the latest quarter, Jio’s ARPU reached Rs 181.7, marking an improvement compared to previous quarters.

In contrast, competitors Airtel and Vodafone-Idea are raising tariffs in pursuit of higher ARPU. They argue that the current industry expenses may not adequately support 5G expansion.

Vodafone-Idea Faces Challenges

Bharti Airtel’s CEO, Gopal Vittal, emphasized the need for a healthier industry by increasing ARPU.

He stated that an ARPU of at least Rs 300 is necessary at this time. Airtel’s ARPU was Rs 200 at the end of the first fiscal year.

On the other hand, Vodafone-Idea, struggling with debt, reported an ARPU of Rs 142 in the second quarter of this fiscal year.
