Pets on Train: Your Train Travel made easy with New Rules on carrying Pets

Leaving a beloved pet at home can be a difficult experience for any pet owner. However, Indian Railways has introduced a new rule that might make things easier for pet owners who want to travel with their pets.

The Ministry of Railways has proposed online booking for pet travel in First AC coaches. Here’s everything you need to know about this facility.

Current Rules for Pet Travel on Trains

Currently, pet owners have to book tickets for their pets at the parcel booking counter on the first platform. They can take their pets in the brake van of Second AC or in a box in the luggage compartment.

Indian Railways has established rules based on the weight and size of the animals. Cats and dogs can travel in the same coach as their owners.

Online Booking for Pet Travel

Indian Railways is introducing online booking for pet travel on trains. Pet owners can now book tickets online for their dogs or cats through the IRCTC website.

This makes it easier for pet owners to take their pets with them.

However, there are some rules that must be followed. Previously, dogs could only be carried in boxes in the train and owners had to pay luggage rates.

They were not allowed in AC 2 Tier, AC 3 Tier, AC Chair Car, Sleeper Class, and Second Class coaches.

Rules for Pet Owners

When booking a pet, the animal must have an anti-rabies vaccine. A veterinary certificate stating the breed, color, and gender of the pet is also required. During the journey, the food and water of the pet is the responsibility of the owner. If the pet gets injured during the journey, it will also be the responsibility of the owner.

Indian Railways has made two types of arrangements for carrying pets: owners can take them with them or take them as luggage.

Traveling with Different Types of Animals

Indian Railways has announced rules for carrying animals of different sizes, including elephants, horses, dogs, and cats.

However, pets like dogs and cats can travel with their owners in the same coach. To take them with you, you need to follow certain rules.
