Zomato and McDonald’s Fined for Delivering Non-Veg Instead of Veg (See Detail)

Zomato, a company that delivers food online, and McDonald’s, a fast food restaurant, had to pay a fine.

A special court for people who buy things in Jodhpur told both.of them to pay Rs 1 lakh. Zomato shared this news on Friday.

Court admitted – violation of this law

According to a news report from the PTI news agency, Zomato mentioned that the court has asked both them and their restaurant partner, McDonald’s, to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh.

They have to pay this fine because they didn’t follow the Consumer Protection Act 2019. Additionally, they also need to pay Rs 5000 for the legal process.

The consumer court made a decision

A person asked for food from Zomato, requesting vegetarian food from McDonald’s.

However, there was a mix-up, and the restaurant accidentally sent non-vegetarian food instead of vegetarian. Someone filed a complaint in court about this issue.

The court in Jodhpur, called the District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum (2), decided that the companies didn’t follow the rules of the Consumer Protection Act 2019. As a result, the court fined both of them Rs 1 lakh.

The companies have a lot of responsibility

The court also said that the companies must pay for the legal process, and they were asked to pay Rs 5,000 each for this.

This means both companies now have a total cost of Rs 1,05,000, which includes both the expenses and the fine.

The court told both companies to share the cost equally. This means that each of them needs to pay Rs 52,500.

Zomato getting ready to respond

Zomato is planning to disagree with the court’s decision from the customer court.

They mentioned they’re currently working on filing this appeal with the guidance of their legal experts.

They also mentioned that the court’s decision won’t cause big money or business problems for them.
