WhatsApp regularly adds new features to its app to maintain user interest and attract more users.
One of the main factors driving WhatsApp’s global popularity is the abundance of privacy features it offers to users.
WhatsApp is committed to user privacy and continually introduces new features to enhance and strengthen it.
WhatsApp plans to enhance user privacy by introducing a new feature that will block screenshots of users’ profile pictures in the app.
New feature of WhatsApp
This means that users won’t be able to take screenshots of your WhatsApp profile picture.
WhatsApp released the beta version of this feature just last month, and now it’s gradually becoming available to all users.
WabetaInfo’s report mentions that WhatsApp has been testing this feature since February, and now the company has started rolling it out to all users.
This update is being released gradually to users worldwide as a server-side update.
Screenshot blocked
With the new WhatsApp update, users won’t be able to take screenshots of others’ profile pictures.
If users attempt to screenshot a friend’s profile picture, their phone will save a black screen screenshot.
During testing, users attempting to screenshot a profile picture saw a warning stating that due to app restrictions, they couldn’t take a screenshot.
This feature will be turned on automatically and cannot be disabled. In the stable version, there’s no warning; instead, a black image is saved on the phone when a screenshot is taken.
Earlier, WhatsApp allowed users to save profile pictures of their contacts, which raised privacy concerns.
Meta, the platform owner, recognized this issue and removed the option to save profile pictures.
However, users could still take screenshots, undermining WhatsApp’s privacy efforts.
Now, with the new update preventing screenshotting of profile pictures, WhatsApp’s privacy goals will likely be achieved.
