WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, has announced a new service in India. They will now have a helpline where people can report fake messages, fake photos or videos made by computers, and videos that look real but are not.
Meta and an organization called the Misinformation Combat Alliance (MCA) will set up this helpline for WhatsApp users. People can call or message this helpline to report fake information.
Recently, about 20 big tech companies like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta have come together to stop fake information and computer-generated content in elections happening this year in many countries, including India.
MCA works with tech companies to fight fake information. Deepfakes are a big concern right now. They are fake photos or videos that look real. They can be made in different ways.
Deepfakes are getting so good that it’s hard to tell if they’re real or fake. To fight them, MCA is making a special team to check if photos or videos are deepfakes or not.
