WhatsApp, the popular messaging app, is discontinuing its service on 25 smartphones, including Samsung, Apple, and Sony devices, starting October 24.
The company’s decision to drop support for these phones is aimed at providing users with the latest features on more up-to-date operating systems.
After October 24, WhatsApp will no longer work on smartphones running Android OS versions 4.1 and older.
To continue using WhatsApp and receive the latest updates and security patches, users will need to switch to a device with a newer operating system, as per the company’s guidance.
The following smartphones will no longer support WhatsApp:
1. Samsung Galaxy S2 | 6. Grand S Flex ZTE | 11. HTC One | 16. Motorola Droid Razr | 21. Acer Iconia Tab A5003 |
2. Nexus 7 | 7. Grand X Quad V987 ZTE | 12. Sony Xperia Z | 17. Sony Xperia S2 | 22. Samsung Galaxy S |
3. iPhone 5 | 8. HTC Desire 500 | 13. LG Optimus G Pro | 18. Motorola Xoom | 23. HTC Desire HD |
4. iPhone 5c | 9. Huawei Ascend D | 14. Samsung Galaxy Nexus | 19. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 | 24. LG Optimus 2X |
5. Archos 53 Platinum | 10. Huawei Ascend D1 | 15. HTC Sensation | 20. Asus Eee Pad Transformer | 25. Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc3 |
WhatsApp’s advice is to upgrade your device before October 24 to continue using the app.
Failing to do so will result in no further updates or security patches from WhatsApp, potentially leaving users vulnerable to security risks.
Most of these phone models are considerably old, and few people still use them today. If you have one of these devices, it’s a good time to consider upgrading to a newer model.
Keep in mind that WhatsApp won’t stop working on these phones after October 24, but you won’t receive important updates necessary for your security.
