Vistara and IndiGo have received approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to initiate new international flight routes, signaling increased connectivity and potential reductions in airfares.
New Routes by Vistara & IndiGo
Vistara intends to commence flight services from New Delhi to Bali, Indonesia, while IndiGo has sought permission to operate flights between New Delhi and Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.
IndiGo’s Delhi-Tbilisi flights are expected to take off from August 7, with Vistara’s Delhi-Bali flights commencing on August 1.
Potential Impact on Airfares
With the introduction of these new international flight routes, there is optimism for a reduction in airfares.
The enhanced competition resulting from Vistara and IndiGo’s entry into these markets may lead to more affordable ticket prices, benefitting travelers.
Vistara’s Merger with Air India
Vistara, currently in the process of merging with Air India, is expected to leverage this integration to strengthen its international operations.
As part of the Tata Group, the ownership of Air India, Vistara’s expansion into the new international route is seen as a strategic move to enhance its presence in the global aviation market.
IndiGo’s Expansion Plans
IndiGo has made a landmark aircraft purchase agreement, placing an order for 500 aircraft with Airbus during the Paris Air Show 2023. This substantial order, the largest ever placed by an airline, includes A20 Neo, A321 Neo, and A321 XLR aircraft.
With over 300 aircraft already in its fleet and an additional 480 on order, IndiGo aims to fortify its position as a major player in the aviation industry.
Tata Group’s Air India Order
In addition to IndiGo’s ambitious aircraft order, earlier this year, Air India, under the ownership of the Tata Group, placed an order for the supply of 470 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing.
This move highlights the Tata Group’s commitment to expanding its aviation presence and enhancing connectivity options for passengers.
