Because life is hard for people living in hilly areas, they keep asking for special treatment.
They are also working hard to protect their culture, way of life, food, and land.
Now, to keep the land safe in the mountains, the Uttarakhand government made a rule. Only people who live in Uttarakhand can buy land for farming and gardening.
The leader of Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, decided this in an important meeting.
Restrictions only on farming and horticulture land
The Uttarakhand government shared that they have temporarily stopped people from buying land for farming and gardening.
This ban is only for these types of land. The goal is to keep the people who live in Uttarakhand safe.
They also made a team of five people who will give a report to the government about land laws.
The leaders of all districts were told not to say “yes” to selling land for farming or gardening to people from other states.
Could buy land with DM’s approval
In 2024, they made some changes to a law in Uttar Pradesh about buying land.
Before, if someone didn’t own land in the state before September 12, 2003, they could buy land for farming or gardening with the DM’s approval.
Now, they stopped this. The Uttarakhand government says they made this decision for the good of the people and the state.
Investigation into the buyer’s background and reasons will also continue.
In the news for the new year, Pushkar Singh Dhami talked to the media. He mentioned that last May, they decided to check the buyer’s background before any land deal.
They will also look into the reasons for buying the land. Now, they stopped selling agricultural land. They will keep checking for all other deals.
A five-member committee has been formed
On December 22, 2023, the government created a group called the Land Law Committee with Radha Raturi in charge.
Then, on December 24, there was a rally in Dehradun. People were asking for the year 1950 to be the important date for where someone belongs, and they wanted strong land laws like in Himachal Pradesh.
