Tesla, the electric car company, has released a special document called the Application Programming Interface (API) to help third-party apps.
As mentioned by Electrek, currently, the API only handles the instructions you can give to your car using the Tesla app, and it can also send information from your car to the app.
Third-party app community
This change will make all third-party apps for managing fleets and using smartwatches official.
The company, led by Elon Musk, had talked about making a software development kit (SDK) to create a complete community of third-party apps for their cars.
Now, they have officially shared the API documentation, which is a big step in making this community of third-party apps for their cars.
What’s new in the API?
Tesla says that, beginning next year, all outside apps will have to use the new API.
In 2024, most cars will have to follow commands through the Tesla Vehicle Command SDK.
In August, Tesla’s app got a new feature that works with Apple Shortcuts.
According to reports, people who have a Tesla car and an iPhone can use Siri to make Apple Shortcuts work, and they don’t need other apps from outside, like Tesla.
Tesla’s cell
During the third quarter of 2023, Tesla made 430,488 cars, which is 10 less than the quarter before.
In the same quarter, they produced over 430,000 cars and delivered more than 435,000.
In the third quarter, they delivered 435,059 cars, which is 6.6% less than the previous quarter but 26.5% more than the same time last year.
Tesla will officially share its third-quarter financial results on October 18.
