Suzuki Unveils Its First Hydrogen Powered Scooter (See Details)

Suzuki has revealed its inaugural hydrogen scooter, the Burgman Hydrogen. The company plans to showcase this innovation at the upcoming Japan Mobility Conference 2023 later this month.

Suzuki is actively engaged in research and development to create a hydrogen engine as part of its efforts to achieve carbon neutrality.

The Burgman Hydrogen scooter will feature the existing commercial Bergman 400 ABAS, equipped with a 70 MPa hydrogen tank and hydrogen engine.

Although Suzuki has not disclosed many details about the Burgman Hydrogen, it’s worth noting that Suzuki is not the first automaker to explore hydrogen-powered two-wheelers.

Triton Electric, a US-based company that recently entered the Indian market, is also developing a hydrogen scooter with an estimated range of 175 km.

TVS, another prominent player in the two-wheeler industry, is reportedly working on its own hydrogen scooter, as evidenced by a patent filing.

In the electric scooter segment, Suzuki has already introduced an electric version of the Burgman.

Design-wise, the Suzuki Burgman Hydrogen closely resembles its hydrogen and electric petrol counterparts. In terms of capacity, it will be equivalent to a 125-cc scooter, as confirmed by the company.

Furthermore, Suzuki plans to gather valuable data on daily scooter usage for transportation and shopping through this demonstration.

This data will play a vital role in the development of future electric vehicles (EVs).
