SBI and ICICI Bank Enable UPI Payments via RuPay Credit Cards

In a significant update for customers of State Bank of India (SBI) and ICICI Bank, the two largest banks in India, UPI (Unified Payments Interface) transactions can now be conducted using RuPay credit cards.

Customers of both banks can seamlessly link their RuPay credit cards to the UPI app, expanding their payment options.

Additionally, users can now link their RuPay credit cards on the popular BHIM app as well.

This development, initiated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in 2022, has facilitated credit card payments through UPI apps, enabling convenient and secure transactions for customers.

In 2022, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) introduced a new payment facility that enables UPI payments through RuPay credit cards.

This innovation allows users to make credit card payments via UPI payment apps by simply scanning the required information.

However, it’s important to note that certain types of transactions, such as peer-to-peer transfers, may not be eligible for this facility.

In addition to the BHIM app, select banks offering RuPay credit cards have integrated them with popular UPI apps like Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe, PayZapp, and Freecharge.

Heading: How to Link Your Credit Card for UPI Payments

To link your credit card for UPI payments, follow these steps:

1. Open your BHIM UPI app.
2. Navigate to the bank account options.
3. Proceed to the account link section and click on the “+” symbol.
4. You will see two options: Bank Account and Credit Card. Choose the credit card option.
5. Enter the last six digits of your credit card to verify its validity.
6. You will receive an OTP (One-Time Password) on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP.
7. Set your UPI PIN to complete the linking process.
8. Once linked, you can utilize your credit card for UPI payments seamlessly.

This new feature empowers SBI and ICICI Bank customers to leverage their RuPay credit cards for UPI transactions, enhancing the convenience and flexibility of their digital payments.
