The scorching heat has made Mumbaikars miserable, but there’s good news on the horizon. According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon will arrive in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, on June 10.
Pre-monsoon rains have already begun in some areas of the city. On June 5, light rain occurred in many parts of Mumbai, such as Borivali, Kandivali, and Dadar.
The Meteorological Department predicts more rain in the next few hours and days, bringing relief from the heat.
Monsoon’s Progress Across India
The southwest monsoon reached Kerala earlier than expected on May 30. So far, it has spread to Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, West Bengal,
and the northeastern states. The Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipates that the monsoon will soon reach other states as well.
Monsoon Entry in Maharashtra on June 10
The Meteorological Department forecasts that the monsoon will arrive in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, by June 10. Rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, is expected in Mumbai between June 6 and June 10.
Weather forecasting agency Skymet predicts more pre-monsoon rain this week, which may lower Mumbai’s temperatures. The city is likely to receive normal pre-monsoon rain between June 7 and June 10.
The IMD states that Mumbai’s maximum temperature will range between 33 to 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will be between 27 to 28 degrees Celsius throughout the week.
Rain in Mumbai
On June 5, many areas of Mumbai experienced pre-monsoon rain, providing temporary relief from the heat and humidity. Light rain began in some parts of the city around 7 am. According to the BMC, areas like Dadar, Kandivali, Matunga, Oshiwara, Wadala,
and Ghatkopar received rainfall between 4 mm to 26 mm between 7 and 8 am. Light rain also fell in central and south Mumbai.
Heavy Rain Expected on the Weekend
The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy rains (115.5-204.4 mm) in isolated places in Konkan
and Goa on June 8 and 9. Additionally, heavy to very heavy rains are expected in isolated places in Madhya Maharashtra on June 9.
