RBI introduces E-Rupee for Offline Transactions; keeps repo rate stable at 6.5%

New Delhi:

Today, the head of the Reserve Bank of India, Shaktikanta Das, talked about E-Rupee. He said that soon, people will be able to make transactions using E-Rupee, even in places where the internet is not very strong.

They’re planning to introduce this feature as part of a project to test a new kind of digital currency.

Shaktikanta Das mentioned that they’re planning to add more ways to use this new digital currency.

They already tested it last year and it worked well, with many transactions happening every day.

Besides the usual payment methods like UPI, soon you’ll be able to make payments offline using different online platforms.

Right now, you can use digital wallets from banks to send money to people or pay for things.

But with this new offline payment system, more people will likely start using E-Rupee.

Shaktikanta Das also said they’re improving the security of another payment system called AEPS, which many people used last year.

They’re working on making digital payments safer overall.
