PhonePe launches ‘Indus App Store’ to Rival Google Play Store

Walmart’s PhonePe, a company that Walmart owns, just launched a new app store today, on February 21st.

It’s called the Indus App Store, and people have been talking about it for a while now.

This new app store is for Android phones and is made in India. It’s a place where you can find and download apps, just like the Google Play Store.

Will the Google Play Store be closed because of this? Well, last year in September 2023, PhonePe asked companies to put their apps on this new store.

Most people in India use the Google Play Store to get apps, but now they have another choice. People can also use the Indus App Store to download Android apps.

This is a big deal because a lot of people in India spend a ton of time using mobile apps.

In 2023, people in India spent 1.19 trillion hours on apps, compared to 954 billion hours in 2021.

That’s a huge increase! So, Walmart’s move to launch this app store could make them a lot of money.

Here are some things about the Indus App Store

1) They say they have over 200,000 mobile apps and games in 45 different categories.

2) The app supports 12 languages, including Hindi and English, as well as many other Indian languages.

3) When they first talked about the Indus App Store in September, they said it would be free for developers to put their apps on it for the first year.

4) Developers can use any payment gateway they want for their apps.

5) They say they’ll have customer support available 24/7 through email and a chatbot.
