The company announced that it would start counting the chat backup in users’ Google accounts.
This means your data will be stored in your Google account, and if there’s not enough space, you might need to pay for extra storage.
If you don’t want to spend money, you can turn off chat backup. This change will apply to everyone before July this year.
Currently, the company has begun testing this update with WhatsApp Android beta testers. If you use the beta version, make sure to check your chat backup.
According to a report by Indian Express, the company released this update specifically for beta testers.
Here’s what you can do to avoid costs for chat backup
1) Turn off chat backup if you don’t want to pay.
2) Even if you have enough space in your Google account, disable the photo and media option in chat backup, as they take up a lot of storage.
3) Another option is to transfer chats and data to a new phone through WhatsApp chat transfer.
Just ensure that both phones are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
If you don’t use these methods, you’ll likely have to pay for chat backup soon.
The company plans to notify regular users about this update through a popup message 30 days before it takes effect.
