The Income Tax Department has introduced a convenient feature on its e-filing portal to simplify the income tax filing process.
This new addition, named ‘e-Proceedings’, aims to assist taxpayers in monitoring their pending tax proceedings efficiently.
Understanding e-Proceedings
The ‘e-Proceedings’ tab within the portal allows registered users to access various notices, letters, and information issued by the department.
This includes notices such as defect notices under section 139(9), notices under section 245, prima facie adjustment under section 143(1)(a), and suo moto rectification under section 154.
Accessing e-Proceedings
To utilize this feature, users must log in to the e-filing portal using their credentials. Once logged in, they can navigate to the ‘Pending Actions’ section on the dashboard and select ‘e-Proceedings’.
Users then have the option to respond either as an individual taxpayer or as an authorized representative.
Requirements for Access
To access the e-Proceedings service, users need an active PAN card and valid user ID and password for the e-filing portal.
Additionally, they must possess the relevant notice, intimation, or letter from the Income Tax Department.
Authorized representatives may also need proper authorization to act on behalf of taxpayers and, in some cases, an active TAN.
This new feature not only relieves taxpayers from the burden of visiting the Income Tax Office but also streamlines the process of tracking
and responding to tax-related information, ultimately saving time and effort.
