Tamil Nadu’s ‘Special Licence’ To Serve Liquor: Who Needs It?
- Anyone organising any parties including marriage functions where guests have been invited will require ‘special licence’ to serve liquor.
- ‘Special licence’ will also be required to serve liquor during international or national summits in Tamil Nadu.
- In case of conferences or any events, if liquor is served then ‘special licence’ will need to be procured.
- All banquet halls or sports stadiums, which organises any kind of functions, will require ‘special licence’ to serve alcohol.
- ‘Special licence’ will also be required in case of non-commercial premises such as households for hosting parties, celebrations or events.
What is Tamil Nadu’s ‘Special Licence’?
In Tamil Nadu, a ‘special licence’ must be obtained to serve liquor at conference and banquet halls, wedding functions, and other events.
The special licence can be obtained by paying a specified fee and will be valid for a specific time duration, usually one or two days, depending on the event.
The Tamil Nadu government has stated that the F.L.12 Special Licence, which allows for possession and serving of Indian Made Foreign Spirits and Imported Foreign Liquor during international/national summits, events, conferences, celebrations, festivals, etc., will be valid for a specific time duration of one or more days.
The licence will be issued by the Deputy Commissioner/Assistant Commissioner (Excise) with the prior approval of the District Collector, upon payment of the required licence fees, and will be applicable only in marked places as specified by the licensee and licensor.
