There’s been a lot of talk about something called CAA lately, both online and in the news.
CAA stands for the Amended Citizenship Act (Citizen Amendment Act 2019), which the Government of India has put into action.
This new law means that people who are from countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh,
and who belong to communities like Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Christian, Buddhist, or Parsi, can now become Indian citizens even if they came to India without any papers before December 31, 2014.
The Government has launched a new website and app to help with this process. The Home Ministry of the Government of India made an online platform available on March 12.
This website and app, called CAA 2019, allow eligible people to apply for Indian citizenship under the CAA law.

On this website and app, you can find all the information you need about the rules, questions, and documents required to become an Indian citizen. You can also get help online if you need it.
Here’s how you can apply
1) First, go to the Government of India’s online portal or app for CAA.
2) Once you’re there, you’ll see information about the new law. Read through it.
3) Look for the section about online services and click on the link to apply for citizenship under CAA.
4) A new page will open, and you’ll need to log in. You can use your phone number or email ID for this.
5) Then, enter the captcha code shown on the screen and click “Continue.”
If you’ve already registered for CAA, you’ll receive an OTP (one-time password) on your registered phone number or email.
Enter this OTP to continue and complete the application process.
If you’re new and haven’t registered for CAA yet, you won’t receive an OTP. Instead, you’ll be prompted to sign up.
