New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has revealed plans to modify the regulations concerning unsolicited, promotional calls and SMS messages that are sent to customers.
These changes are set to take effect from May 1, 2023. As part of these modifications, TRAI will be implementing an AI filter that will help prevent pesky calls and SMS messages, which should provide substantial relief to telecom customers who have been receiving a barrage of unwanted spam calls and SMS messages on a regular basis.
TRAI New Order From May 1
According to reports, TRAI has mandated that telecom companies must install Artificial Intelligence Spam filters in their call and SMS services from May 1.
The order requires the AI filter to help customers avoid fake and promotional calls.
Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio have both announced their plans to implement the AI filter service soon.
Airtel, JIO Announce To Roll Out AI Filter
Airtel has reportedly declared its plans to implement an AI filter for its services, while JIO has also announced that it will soon begin to roll out its own AI filter on its services.
However, there is not much information available yet regarding the specifics of these filters.
It is expected that the AI filters will become operational from May 1, 2023.
Call ID Feature Soon To Be Available
TRAI has been actively working to address the issue of fake calls and SMS, which has been a major concern for customers.
Scammers often use these tactics to deceive unsuspecting customers and fraudulently obtain their money.
As a result, TRAI has urged telecom companies to discontinue promotional calls on 10 digit mobile numbers.
Additionally, the regulatory body is exploring the possibility of introducing a Call ID feature that would display the caller’s name and photo on the mobile phone.
The implementation of the AI filter to curb pesky calls and SMS has been announced from May 1, however, telecom companies such as Airtel and JIO are reportedly hesitant to implement this technology due to privacy concerns, though no official information has been released on this matter yet.
It is important to note that only the AI filter will be implemented to stop the bombardment of unsolicited calls and messages to customers.
