The first FIR under the new criminal law has been registered in Delhi at the Kamala Market Police Station.
The case involves a street vendor accused of obstructing movement under the foot over bridge at New Delhi Railway Station.
This FIR is filed under Section 285 of the Indian Justice Code 2023.
Introduction of New Criminal Laws
The Indian Judicial Code (BNS) 2023, replacing the 163-year-old IPC, along with the Indian Civil Defense Code 2023 and the Indian Evidence Act 2023,
has come into effect nationwide from today.
These new laws abolish the old British-era laws,
namely the Indian Penal Code 1860, Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) 1898, and the Indian Evidence Act 1872.
Details of the Accused and Crime
According to the Delhi Police FIR, the accused, Pankaj Kumar, is a resident of Barh-Bakhtiyarpur in Bihar.

He is accused of selling goods, including bidis and cigarettes, near the deluxe toilet under the foot over bridge at New Delhi Railway Station, causing obstruction to pedestrians.
