Netflix has taken a strict stance against password sharing in India, following similar actions in several other countries.
Starting today, the streaming platform will no longer permit multiple users to share a single account.
Each account will be exclusively tied to one person, and Netflix will send out special emails to those found sharing their passwords.
However, users can benefit from new features such as profile transfer and device management, enhancing the overall viewing experience for families.
Improved Content and Subscription Plans:
Netflix emphasized its commitment to continually invest in new movies and exclusive TV shows to cater to diverse preferences, moods, and languages.
Despite a wide range of entertainment choices available, the streaming giant assures users of a constant supply of fresh and exciting content.
Crackdown on Password Sharing in Multiple Countries:
In addition to India, Netflix has also initiated a crackdown on password sharing in Indonesia, Croatia, and Kenya.
The move is aimed at bolstering revenue, and users who share passwords will now be subject to additional fees.
Changes in Over 100 Countries:
Netflix previously halted password sharing in more than 100 countries, including the US, UK, France, Germany, Australia, Singapore, Mexico, and Brazil.
In these regions, Netflix aims to curb account sharing and maintain subscription costs.
New Subscription Plans in the US:
Recently, Netflix made significant changes to its subscription plans in the US and UK. The ad-free basic plan now costs $15.49 (Rs 1271) per month, whereas a lower-priced plan at $6.99 (Rs 573) offers content with ads.
Additionally, the cheapest ad-free plan was discontinued, prompting new customers to pay extra for an ad-free experience.
Impact on India’s Netflix Subscribers:
With the introduction of the password-sharing policy in India, users previously accustomed to sharing accounts will now have to subscribe to individual accounts at the regular subscription rate of Rs. 149 per month.
Further details on the policy’s effects and other potential changes will be shared by Netflix soon.
