The Indian government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, has extended a generous gesture before Diwali, granting 78 days’ bonus pay to over 11.07 lakh non-gazetted railway employees.
This boon will alleviate the financial strain caused by inflation. This decision comes with a price tag of Rs 1,969 crore, directly benefiting track maintainers, loco pilots, train managers, station masters, supervisors, technicians, technical helpers, pointsmen, ministerial staff, and various Group C positions, excluding RPF and RPSF personnel.
This bonus, equivalent to 78 days’ salary, has been approved for the fiscal year 2022-23. The move is expected to stimulate economic activity during the festive season, potentially boosting demand.
This bonus of Rs 1,969 crore is a testament to the commendable performance of railway employees in the preceding year.
Notably, the railways recorded a remarkable freight load of 1,509 million tonnes and served 6.5 billion passengers in 2022-23.
The government views this bonus as an incentive to further enhance their performance in the future.
