Big technology company Microsoft will stop helping and fixing issues for its Windows 10 operating system in the near future.
This means they won’t give any assistance for problems on this system anymore. This decision will have a significant impact on the company.
Canalys Research suggests that if Microsoft stops support, around 240 million computers will be affected, and these computers might become useless.
The research also estimates that the waste generated from these computers will be about 480 million kilograms, which is equal to approximately 320,000 vehicles.
Effect on demand
After the support ends, Windows 10 computers will still function, but if there’s a problem or bug, Microsoft won’t provide help.
Hackers might take advantage of these unprotected systems, putting millions of people at risk.
Canalys Research predicts that this lack of support will decrease the demand for Microsoft’s computers, leaving them unused in factories.
When will support end?
Microsoft plans to stop supporting Windows 10 after October 10, 2025. However, there are suggestions that the company might continue support until 2028, possibly with an additional yearly cost. There’s no official information about this yet.
If Microsoft charges higher prices, it could be more affordable for users to switch to a new system, reducing the demand for the old one.
The research also mentions that the company is going to support AI features in the new operating system, which will completely change the user experience.
