Microsoft Paint 3D App to Be Discontinued

Microsoft’s Paint 3D app will soon be closed. You won’t be able to download it after November 4, 2024.

According to Windows Central, the company plans to remove Paint 3D from the Microsoft Store by the end of this year.

Existing Users Will Still Have Access

If you already have Paint 3D or download it before November 4, 2024, you will continue to have access to the app. However, it will no longer be available for download after that date.

Introduction and Features

Paint 3D was launched by Microsoft in 2017. It includes features like Magic Select, 3D Doodle Tool, filters, and lighting options.

Magic Select allows users to cut and paste parts from photos into 3D models. Users can also import videos based on specific designs or models.

The Plan and Shift in Strategy

Paint 3D was intended to replace the classic Windows Paint app. However, users found the classic Paint app easier to use, leading Microsoft to decide against its removal.

Additionally, the company had envisioned Paint 3D as part of a broader 3D-compatible ecosystem, including devices like Hololens

and Windows Smartphones. This initiative did not succeed, and as a result, Paint 3D will be discontinued.

Initial Goals and Outcomes

Paint 3D was intended to replace the classic Windows Paint app, but users preferred the simplicity of the classic app.

Microsoft also aimed to create a special ecosystem for 3D-compatible software

and devices like Hololens with Paint 3D, but this project did not succeed. As a result, Microsoft is closing Paint 3D permanently.
