Even though Reliance Jio and Airtel have finished setting up 5G networks in India, there are still many people using 2G or 3G.
Now, Jio and Vodafone-Idea (Vi) are asking the government to close down 2G and 3G networks in the country and move all users to 4G or 5G networks.
Jio and Vi made this request after the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) recently talked about improving digital technology with 5G.
Jio and Vi think that people on the old networks should switch to 4G for new improvements.
TRAI asked for ideas
After talking about these changes, TRAI asked for suggestions to make a 5G system in India and give new choices to users.
Jio and Vi want the government to move people using the old network to the new one.
Big challenges right now
Turning off 2G and 3G and moving to 4G and 5G is not easy. The biggest problem is the cost of phones and devices that support 4G and 5G.
Many people in India use cheap phones that don’t support 4G. Also, there might not be enough space in the airwaves for 5G.
Jio asked the government to sell different parts of the airwaves to make 5G better. But the government will decide after thinking about it for a long time.
