Hemant Soren’s government in Jharkhand has shared some important news for women.
They have decided to change the age at which women can get pension benefits.
Instead of waiting until they are 60 years old, women, especially those from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes,
and other groups, will now be eligible for pension at the age of 50. This decision is currently being discussed in the final stages.
The Chief Minister had announced on December 29 that tribal and Dalit individuals in the state can now receive pension benefits when they turn 50, rather than waiting until 60.
The Secretary of Women, Child Development and Social Security Department, Kripa Nand Jha, mentioned that they expect the cabinet to approve this proposal soon.
Once it’s implemented, about 18 lakh more people in Jharkhand will be able to benefit from the pension scheme, joining the existing 35.68 lakh beneficiaries.
In addition to this, the government is working on improving Anganwadi centers.
These centers will now have benches and desks, and they will provide winter uniforms, reading materials, and writing materials to the children.
There is also a plan to build buildings for the remaining Anganwadi centers in the next three years.
Currently, out of 38,432 centers, only 25,000 have their own buildings.
Furthermore, special attention is being given to the transgender community.
Separate toilets will be constructed for them in every educational institution, and there is a proposal to establish a Transgender Board.
The government has also decided to build an old age home for transgender individuals.
Moreover, the Jharkhand government is encouraging widow remarriage in the state.
A new scheme has been introduced from this financial year, offering a lump sum honorarium of Rs 2 lakh to support this cause.
