IndiGo to Fly to American Cities through Partnership with Turkish Airlines: More Details

New Delhi :

Indigo, the country’s largest airline with several aircraft and market share, is now eyeing the US market.

IndiGo, in alliance with Turkish Airlines, has applied to the US Department of Transportation, the nodal agency, for approval of flights.

Both airlines have also requested to decide on the application at the earliest.

If approved, IndiGo’s flights can fly to Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Hutson, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Newark, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, DC.

IndiGo’s rival Air India has flights to New York, Newark, San Francisco, and Washington, DC.

What is IndiGo’s plan?

Indigo continued to go from strength to strength after the pandemic. Together, they launched flights to 20 destinations and are expanding rapidly in Europe.

Indigo has started Turkish dump-leased B777 flights from Delhi to Istanbul from February 1.

The business class tickets for these flights are sold by Turkish Airlines, and the two airlines jointly sell economy class tickets.

After getting approval for aviation in America, Turkish Airlines flights will be for 12 places and will have a 6E code.

This will be the first time that IndiGo’s flight numbers will be listed in US airports.

What is CodeShare Agreement?

IndiGo and Turkish Airlines have a codeshare agreement; under this, both have jointly applied with the US regulator.

Under this agreement, passengers of both airlines can quickly transfer to each other’s companies without changing the flight number.

Indigo started a codeshare with Turkish Airlines in the year 2019.
