IndiGo announces Boost in Salaries for Pilots and Crew During Festive Season

During the festive season, India’s largest domestic airline, IndiGo, has decided to raise the salaries of its pilots and cabin crew.

This salary increase will take effect from October 1, 2023. The raise varies for each employee, but on average, employees will see a 10 percent increase.

As per reports from ET, IndiGo has boosted the cabin crew’s salaries by an average of 10 percent.

They have introduced a fixed pay provision for 70 hours, ensuring that pilots receive a minimum salary for this duration.

Overtime pay will be given for hours worked beyond 70. In contrast, rival airlines Akasa and Air India offer fixed pay for 40 hours.

This salary increase by IndiGo comes at a time when airlines are grappling with high attrition rates.

It has become a significant challenge for airlines to retain experienced captains and trainers.

Airlines have been placing substantial orders for new aircraft, while pilots from various airlines are switching to others.

Recently, Akasa took legal action against 43 pilots who had not completed their required six-month notice period.

Airlines found themselves compelled to raise salaries twice in a single month. Air India had previously increased salaries by 20 percent in April.

The decision by IndiGo to raise salaries will benefit around 4,500 flight crew members.

Additionally, after announcing record profits of Rs 3,090 crore for the first quarter of 2023-24, the airline also declared a 3 percent bonus for its crew.

IndiGo maintains a dominant market share of over 60 percent in the domestic aviation market.
