Indian Railways has recently launched a special initiative aimed at enhancing the travel experience for passengers in general bogie coaches, particularly those embarking on long-distance journeys.
This new service aims to provide increased comfort throughout the passengers’ trips.
Improving On-Board Facilities
As part of this mission, the Indian Railways has instructed General Managers of all Zonal Railways to ensure the availability of affordable food,
drinking water, and vending trolleys near unreserved coaches at all designated stops.
Furthermore, measures are being taken to maintain cleanliness inside the coaches, including regular intervals for on-board housekeeping staff.
The management is also planning to refill water in the toilets of unreserved coaches at watering stations along the route, and drinking water booths will be installed.
Railway Board’s Directive
Jaya Verma Sinha, Member of the Railway Board responsible for Operations and Business Development, highlighted the increased passenger traffic due to the summer rush.
It is crucial to assess and ensure that passengers traveling in general category coaches receive essential services and facilities.
According to The Hindu, the coaches designed by the Integral Coach Factory can accommodate up to 90 unreserved general class coaches and 99 Linke Hofmann Busch coaches.
Passengers holding unreserved tickets for a specific destination can travel on any train heading in that direction.
However, separate tickets are required for superfast express trains.
Providing Information
The Railway Board emphasized that passengers without reserved tickets travel in unreserved coaches.
Separate bogies have been allocated for women passengers.
Additionally, individuals traveling on unreserved tickets will also have access to food and other necessary amenities.
