They’re saying you need to be super careful because there are more scams happening with UPI lately.
They’re saying that bad people are using tricky ways to steal your money.
Here’s how they do it
1) The bad guys make special apps that can read messages on your phone. They use these apps to read messages from the bank about setting up UPI.
2) They send sneaky links through WhatsApp to try to get you to download bad files onto your phone.
Then, they try to set up UPI on your behalf. So, be really careful and don’t download any apps that seem fishy or come from people or places you don’t trust.
ICICI Bank wants to remind you that they will never ask you to call a certain number or download an app via SMS or WhatsApp.
ICICI Bank also wants to help you stay safe. Here are some tips
1) Make sure your phone has the latest updates and security fixes.
2) Only download apps from places like Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
3) Get antivirus or security software from a company you trust.
4) Don’t click on weird links in emails or messages.
5) Avoid downloading any apps you’re not sure about.
Never share secret info like passwords or card numbers with anyone. If something fishy happens, tell the National Cyber Crime Portal right away.
