Hyundai discontinued 11 Variants of Creta, Verna and i20 (See Details)

Since the beginning of the new year, Hyundai has been looking to improve the variant mix for its popular cars like the i20, Verna, and Creta.

A significant reason for this change in 2023 is the upcoming Real Driving Emission (RTE) norms.

Complying with RDE norms in the case of diesel powertrains is quite challenging and costly.

Due to this, cars with low demand for small vehicles or diesel variants will be discontinued.

Among Hyundai cars, select diesel variants of the i20 and Verna will be broken.

However, cars like the Creta, whose diesel units contribute significantly to its sales, will remain available.

These variants of the i20 will be discontinued

The i20 variants to be discontinued include the i20 Asta(O) 1.5 CRDi MT, Magna 1.5 CRDi MT, and Sportz 1.5 CRDi MT. They will be closed from 23 January.

Also, there will be limited availability of the i20 Sportz 1.0 Turbo GDi iMT. This variant will also be discontinued as soon as the stock runs out.

After the discontinuation, the readily available options for the i20 will include the 1.2-liter Kappa petrol motor and the 1.0-liter turbo petrol motor mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox.

These variants of Verna will be discontinued

The Verna 1.0 Turbo GDI lags behind the DCT SX(O) variant. It will be closed from 23 January.

The Verna diesel variants to be discontinued are 1.5 CRDi MT S+ and 1.5 CRDi MT SX. Otherwise,

the 1.5 MPI MT S+ and 1.5 MPI MT SX are included to round out the petrol variants. All these will be closed from February 2023.

These variants of Creta have been discontinued

Soon-to-be-discontinued options for the Creta include the 1.4 Turbo GDI DCT S+ and the 1.5 iMT S.

The Creta gets three engine options, of which the 1.5-litre MPi petrol and the 1.5-liter diesel are the same as the Verna.

The 1.4-liter turbo petrol unit can generate 140ps power and 242Nm of torque. It is mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox.

Cars of other companies will also be closed

Limited time is left for diesel customers to buy diesel variants of cars like the i20 and Verna.

Apart from Hyundai, other car manufacturers will also discontinue diesel variants of some of their vehicles.

The list includes the Honda 5th gen City Diesel, Honda Amaze Diesel, and the Tata Altroz Diesel.
