Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India have launched their famous Activa H-Smart in the market today.
Along with the launch of this scooter, the company has also shared the timeline for the launch of Electric Activa.
The company’s President, MD, and CEO, Atsushi Ogata, revealed at the launch event of Activa H-Smart that Honda will introduce its first electric scooter by March 2024.
When asked about the company’s plans regarding electric vehicles during the event, Atsushi Ogata said, “The company is working on a plan to introduce the electric scooter by March 2024.
This new electric model will only be based on the existing Activa model.”
The remarkable thing is that it will be launched in the market with a fixed battery pack, whose top speed will be around 50 kilometers per hour.
The company is also planning to launch another electric model after the Activa.
When will Activa Electric be launched:
Atsushi Ogata said, “We are developing our electric two-wheeler locally in Japan with the best team at Honda.
We aim to launch the electric scooter by next year – FY 2023-24. Within this, we will be able to introduce our electric scooter.”
After Activa, the company will introduce another electric scooter, which will be based on an entirely new platform, and the company will launch it in the market with a swappable battery pack.
Focus on Local Components:
Ogata said that “Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) could have introduced electric vehicles in the Indian market by bringing components from China, but the company has opted to develop electric vehicles specifically for the Indian market.” Chosen.”
Currently, the company is focusing on plans to produce electric motors and batteries locally.
The company is also making considerable investments in its electric vehicle project. However, he denied how much has been invested.
Charging stations will be installed at 6,000 touchpoints:
HMSI says that before bringing electric vehicles into the country, it is essential to work on infrastructure like battery charging stations, etc.
The company will also set up battery-swapping stations across all its 6,000 customer touchpoints in the country ahead of the launch of its second electric scooter.
Ogata said, “Customers traveling short distances will opt for the electric model of Activa, but those who want to travel long distances will buy the current model of Activa.”
The company has not shared any information about the electric scooter’s power, performance, price, or driving range.
But the company has also expressed concern about the charging infrastructure.
Let us tell you, Honda Activa is the company’s best-selling model, and there is no other model around it in the scooter segment.
The closest competitor is TVS Jupiter, but there is a considerable difference in sales figures.
In such a situation, the company will try its best to capitalize on the name of Activa for its first electric vehicle
