Honda Electric Two-Wheelers: On Wednesday, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd (HMSI) revealed its plans to launch two new electric two-wheelers (e-2Ws) in India during FY24.
One significant feature of these vehicles is that they will be equipped with a swappable battery.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd (HMSI) has announced that it will launch two new electric two-wheelers (e-2Ws) in India in FY24.
Additionally, the company is setting up a dedicated factory at its Narsapura plant in Karnataka to produce electric two-wheelers.
The aim of this move is to build the best EV business structure in the country, according to Atsushi Ogata, the Managing Director, President, and CEO of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India.
The new e-2Ws will have a swappable battery feature, reflecting the company’s commitment to electric mobility.
According to the company, they will be producing the main components such as battery and PCU in-house, following the government’s Make in India initiative and the emphasis on localisation.
The motor will also be designed and manufactured locally, as per the statement made by Atsushi Ogata, the Managing Director, President and CEO of Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI).
The two-wheeler manufacturer has also announced its goal of producing one million EVs per year by 2030.
To achieve this, the company plans to introduce a dedicated platform that will offer multiple EV models with fixed and swappable batteries.
“At Narsapura, we are aiming to achieve an annual production of one million EVs by 2030,” said Ogata.
He added that the company plans to leverage its existing sales network of around 6,000 touchpoints for setting up charging stations and battery swapping facilities.
In addition to introducing electric two-wheelers and targeting one million EVs production, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) plans to expand its exports to 58 countries with 20 models in FY24.
At present, the company exports 18 models to over 38 countries.
